The invention relates to substituted 3-benzylpyrazoles of formula (I), their precursors of formulas (IIa), (IIb), (IIc), their byproducts of formula (III) as well as their salts, wherein R1 stands for H, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 halogen alkyl, C1-C4 alkyl sulfonyl, C1-C4 halogen alkyl sulfonyl; R2 stands for C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 halogen alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C4 halogen alkoxy, C1-C4 alkyl thio, C1-C4 halogen alkyl thio, C1-C4 alkyl sulfinyl, C1-C4 halogen alkyl sulfinyl, C1-C4 alkyl sulfonyl, C1-C4 halogen alkyl sulfonyl; R3 stands for H, CN, NO2, halogen, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 halogen alkyl; X1-X5 stands for chemical bond, optionally substituted methylene-, ethylene-, ethene-1,2-diyl or oxymethylene or thiamethylene chain linked through the heteroatom to the phenyl ring; R4-R8 stands for H, CN, NO2, halogen -O-Y1-R9, -O-CO-Y1-R9, -N(Y1-R9) (Y2-R10), -N(Y1-R9)-SO2-Y2-R10, -N(SO2-Y1-R9) (SO2-Y2-R10), -N(Y1-R9)-CO-Y2-R10, -N(Y1-R9) (O-Y2-R10), -S-Y1-R9, -SO-Y1-R9, -SO2-Y1-R9, -SO2-O-Y1-R9, SO2-N(Y1-R9) (Y2-R10), -CO-Y1-R9, -C(=NOR11)-Y1-R9, -C(=NOR11)-O-Y1-R9, C(=NOR11)-CO-O-Y1-R9, -CO-O-Y1-R9, -CO-S-Y1-R9, -CO-N(Y1-R9) (Y2-R10), -CO-N(Y1-R9) (O-Y2-R10); R12 stands C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 halogen alkyl. The invention further relates to the use of (I) as a herbicide, for the desiccation/defoliation of plants, and of (I), (IIa), (IIb), (IIc) and (III) for lowering the sugar content in blood.
