The chute (31) has support rails mounted below the crane's (11) gantry (17) extending over the cargo pickup and deposition areas at one end of the crane. A framework (37) can move suspended from the rails, and the lifting spreaders (29) can lower cargo containers through it. The framework has sloped side walls terminating in a restricted clearance pass-through opening at its base. This stops the lifting spreaders being lowered through it from swaying.
