The new naphthacene derivatives of the general formula: +TR wherein A represents a single bond or a methylene group and acid addition salts thereof possess valuable anti-tumor properties. They are prepared by reaction of an acid addition salt of a strong acid of a corresponding naphthacene derivative having a group in the 13-position with a compound of the formula HO-CH2-A-CH2-OH.
