The equipment allows a restriction criterion for a call length to be set, independent of the actual communication. A maximum authorised communication length is allowed according to this restriction. A communication is interrupted when the maximum call duration is exceeded. The criterion is set according to a call type category which is determined according to the telephone number of the called party. A telephone directory memory contains telephone data which is used to determine the called number category.
