The connector has a metal housing (1) fitted with a frame insert (2) to which at least one pin or socket contact rail (5) is attached. Each pin or socket contact rail is provided as a pre-fabricated component, assembled from a number of contact discs (6) which are secured together. The frame insert may be formed in two halves (3), each receiving a respective contact rail, with a spacer (4) fitted between the contact rails when the frame inserts are fitted in the connector housing.
