Seawater- or freshwater-dwelling bivalve shells with pallium piece and/or nucleus inserted are cultured in a rearing installation built on land under controlled conditions so as to avoid unfavorable natural conditions such as cold water temperature or natural disasters such as harmful tide, and the culture is promoted with use of feed comprising defatted powder milk as main component. This component features in promotion of nacreous layer growth as compared with conventional feed of plankton. The invention is preferably applied to the seawater-dwelling bivalve shells, such as pearl oyster shell (pinctada martensii) called Akoyagai in Japanese, black lip shell (pinctada margaritifera), golden lip shell (pinctada maxima); the freshwater-dwelling bivalve shells such as fresh water mussel (hyriopsis schlegeli) called Ikechogai in Japanese, another kind of fresh water mussel called Hireikechogai in Japanese. Therein the invention is applicable to mother shells prior to sit for the insertion operation, but also larvae or spat. |
