Novel phenoxyethylamine derivatives of the formula: +q,10 WHEREIN R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, halogen, C1-C4 alkyl or C1-C4 alkoxy, R3 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, R4 and R5 are each hydrogen or C1-C4 alkoxy and R is alkyl or aralkyl, and non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, which are useful as central nervous system depressants and anti-hypertensive agents and can be prepared by reducing a compound of the formula: +q,11 WHEREIN R1, R2, R4, R5 and R are each as defined above and A is -CO-N-CH2- or -CH2-N-CO- ¦¦ R3R3 (wherein R3 is as defined above) with a reducing agent.
