Raw sludge converted to activated carbon - used for sewage treatment followed by regeneration

The Parent Patent described a biological treatment for raw sludge in sewage treatment plants. In this specification by mixing the sludge with sawdust or waste paper it can be converted into activated carbon for use in effluent clarification. This converts rubbish into a high-quality product. Overloaded sewage plants can be saved from any extension by adding an activated carbon filter section. The spent carbon can be readily re-activated. For pre-cleaning, the activated carbon is crushed to 0-1.2 mm dia. and added in the correct proportion. For filtering purposes, the carbon filter is best arranged after the pre-clarification stage. A multideck filter is pref. to regenerate satd. activated carbon, it is treated biologically or carbonised. Full activation is achieved by a steam treatment and/or aluminium chloride and/or zinc chloride.
