A robust transport container with a bottom having an increased solidity but a reduced return volume may be produced at low cost with a bottom in the shape of a metal wire mesh pallet of European standard size and a jacket (2) that may be collapsed in the empty state, in particular folded, and closed by a lid (3). The bottom (1) is preferably a recycled pallet from a wire mesh box of European standard size that would otherwise be scrapped.
