Compound, or fuel-soluble salt, of formula (I) is new, (where R1 = hydrogen, hydroxy, nitro or -NR7R8; R7 and R8 each = hydrogen or 1-6C alkyl; R2 and R3 each = hydrogen or 1-6C alky; R4 = polyalkyl or average mol. wt. 450-5000). Also claimed is (a) a fuel composition comprising a major amount of hydrocarbons of b.pt. in the diesel or gasoline range and an effective deposit controlling amount of (I) and (b) a fuel concentrate comprising an inert stable oleophilic organic solvent with b.pt. 150-400[deg]F and 10-70 wt.% of (I).
