PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oil solidifying agent which can be used at a low cost and at a low temperature by using a highly water-absorbing polymer containing one or more polymers selected from a highly water-absorbing polymer of starch, cellulose and synthetic polymer. SOLUTION: Highly water-absorbing particles containing one or more polymers selected from a highly water-absorbing polymer of starch, cellulose and synthetic polymer, are used as an oil setting agent for waste oils discarded by a food processing plant, a restaurant or a household. This oil setting agent is, for example, 30-400μm in diameter and is added to oils at a weight ration of about 10-50%. When setting the oils after absorbing the oils by the oil setting agent, water equivalent to 1/2 or more of the volume of the oils is added, and after the lapse of about one minute, the waste oil is set into a jelly state by absorption of the waste oil by the oil setting agent together with water. This oil setting agent enables the treatment of the waste oil in a cooled solid state, so that it can be easily discarded.
