PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly active polymerization catalyst composed of a specific transition metal compound and an organoaluminum oxy compound, etc., and having high activity and good powder properties even if expensive methylaluminoxane is used in a small amount. SOLUTION: This catalyst comprises (A) a transition metal compound represented by formulae I to III [R<1> to R<10> are each H, a 1-20C hydrocarbon, an alkylsilyl or an alkylgermyl; Q is H, a 1-20C hydrocarbon, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, siloxy or a hologen; Y is O, S, etc.; Me is a transition metal of the groups III to VI of the periodic table; (P) is 0 or 1], (B) an organoaluminum oxy compound, (C) a support and (D) an organometallic compound which is a reaction product obtained by mixing (i) lithium with (ii) a trialkylaluminum and/or an organic compound which is a reaction roduct obtained by mixing (iii) an alkylmagnesium halide with the component (ii). Furthermore, the component B in an amount of 5×10<-4> to 0.05 gram atom, expressed in terms of Al atom, is preferably supported on 1g support.
