PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a blue-luminescent phosphor which has a good color purity andγ-characteristics by selecting a phosphor which is represented by a specific formula and contains an alkaline earth metal, a Tm compd., an alkali metal, a silver compd., and Zr or Hf. SOLUTION: This phosphor is represented by a general formula: (A1-x Tmx )By Mz O3 (wherein A is Ca, Sr, or Ba; B is Li, Na, K, or Ag; M is Zr and/or Hf; 0.1<=x<=0.7; 0<=y<=0.7; and 0.5<=z<=1.5) and is obtd. by weighing an oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, or nitrate of an alkaline earth metal, a thulium compd. (e.g. thulium oxide or carbonate), an alkali metal oxide or chloride, a silver compd. (e.g. silver oxide or chloride), hafnium oxide, and zirconium oxide in specified amts. according to the molar ratio of the objective phosphor, thoroughly mixing these ingredients, baking the mixture, and grinding, washing with water, and drying the resultant product. Thus, a blue phosphor having good color purity andγ-characteristics can be provided for the use in electronic tubes, lamps, and X-ray.
