PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat storage tank featured in, for example, that it can serve as both a heat storage tank for room cooling and a heat storage tank for room heating, need not be provided with complicated pipes, selector valves, etc., has less restriction on installation because of its small occupation space, has a high freedom of design and fabrication and is inexpensive. SOLUTION: A mixture containing at least one 8-20 C higher fatty acid salt as the main component and water is used as the heat storage medium 12. This medium 12 is a novel heat storage medium composition which is heated more difficultly than water (namely, cooled more difficultly than water), is capable of accumulating or releasing the latent heat upon the transition between solid and liquid phases at a plurality of specified temperatures and hardly undergoes supercooling. This tank consists of the body 1 of the tank, a cylindrical drum 2, a cover 3 fitted to its top, a cover 4 fitted to its bottom, supporting legs (not shown) provided on the drum 2 and microspherical heat storage objects 11 fully and densely packed into the drum.
