The invention encompasses the use of nitroaminobenzaldehydes and nitroaminobenzylimines as hair dyeing agents. 4-¢(2-hydroxyethyl)amino!-3-nitrobenzaldehyde, N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-¢(2-hydroxyethyl)amino!-3-nitrobenzylimine and N-ethyl-(4-ethylamino-3-nitro)benzylimine are preferred embodiments.
