The manually operated press has an eccentric drive for the the toggle lever system connected to the press ram. The connecting rod (8) has a rotating eccentric sleeve (11) for the rotating eccentric pin (9). Between the sleeve and pin in fitted a carrier (12) which is carried along the eccentric sleeve (11) after rotation of the eccentric shaft (7) or of the eccentric pin (9) by a specified rotating angle alpha. A stop is provided to run in a cut-out segment of the eccentric to limit operating lever movement.
