Lipase prodn. from Alkaligenes microorganism - giving a prod. which has optimum pH in alkali range, is activated by bile acids and can decompose fatty acid ester of cholesterol

The process comprises culturing a lipase-producing microorganism belonging to Alkaligenes genus (pref. nov. sp. Meito PL-679, Ferm. No. 3783) and isolating lipase from the culture. The cultivation is pref. carried out in a medium contg. nonionic surfactant. The novel lipase differs from lipase of Chromobacterium, Fuchomyces or Mucor which has optimal pH near neutrality, of Pseudomonas which is not activated by bile acids, and of Alkaligenes Ferm No. 3187 which can decompose cholesterol ester.
