The invention is a braking and damping element for movable cabinet/furniture components, which consists basically of a cylinder element in which a radial exp andable lengthwise-moving piston is placed. The piston is fitted rather snugly in the c ylinder bore hole and has a front-sided notch, which is connected to an air-filled hollow spa ce formed by the cylinder and the piston. The force of pressure from the piston's connected cabinet/furniture component compresses the air found in the hollow space and notch of the piston which resul ts in a radial expansion of the piston. Braking action results from the stretching or expanding of the piston diameter, which additionally occurs with the above-described damping action resulting from the a ir compression. |
