The lawn mower has a grass collecting basket at the back and horizontally cutting blades without special grass discharge channel. The collecting basket is attached in the longitudinally centre axis of the mower housing directly to the discharge opening of the housing wall which encloses the circular cutting path. The discharge opening ends at the back in the longitudinal centre axis of the housing where in the known mowers with rear collecting basket the grass discharge channel is still extended. The closure surface formed around the longitudinal centre axis of the housing adjoining the opening in the wall enclosing the cutting path and adjoined by the grass basket can be flat or curved but preferably curved so that it adjoins the longitudinal centre axis.
