The ribbon cable conductors (4) are supported by an underlying layer (3) of the ribbon cable (1) and connected via ultrasonic welding to respective terminals (7) of an external component (5). The underlying layer of the ribbon cable is melted during the ultrasonic welding to provide projections at the sides of the cable conductors with a greater height than the thickness of the latter.
