The lead shot (5) has an outer coating (7) made from a material which is tolerated by an organism - at least one layer (7A) of a fluoropolymer resin. The fluoropolymer resin can be applied in two coatings with a thickness of at least 15 microns and up to 20 microns, and the coating is applied all over the shot so that there are no exposed areas of lead. The shot can be coated, for example, by spraying it with the resin as the shot is stirred, followed by a period for polymerisation. Reduces risk of lead poisoning from accidentally ingested shot.
