Plate (6) with multiple wells (5), to contain chemical or biological samples, is formed by: (a) heating a thermoplastic sheet, placing it on a mould (4) having a number of holes formed in its surface distributed according to the distribution of wells required in the sheet, and (b) establishing a differential pressure across the sheet to deform the sheet into the holes to form wells (5) the bottoms of the wells remaining out of contact with the surfaces of the mould. Also claimed is the resulting multi-well plate.
