Resistant fungal cells are detected in clinical material by: (i) extracting fungus-specific nucleic acid (I) from the material, and (ii) hybridising (I) with probes (II) directed against nucleic acid sequences present in fungi resistant to azole derivatives (A). Also claimed are 8 specified nucleic acid sequences (IIa) of 19-32 bp.
