The device has two concentric tubes, the inner being a valve lifter, with a seal at one end and a lifter pin at the other end. The inner tube (1) has a cam, and the outer tube (3) has corresponding apertures. A component (6) connected to a float (5) is located turnable in one of the apertures. When the inner tube is lifted, a part (7) of the component engages on the cam, moving off the cam when the float sinks. The lifter pin (8) on the inner tube engages with a trigger lever (9), which acts via a rocker on the lifter pin. A further aperture (15) in the outer tube engages with a guide pin (13) on the inner tube, to turn the inner tube when this is lifted.
