Computer based document processing system

The system has an operating system and a user program that have direct access via an interface of the drive system to a data base. The documents are either held in the data base or in a memory sub system. The process forms a virtual data file system and the documents are identified by a document managing system, DMS, with indexing characteristics. An extended index mark is automatically generated for the management of the documents. The contents of the extended index mark are extracted from the documents or manually input.
