Determination of the specific conductance of paints and lacquers

Method for the determination of specific conductance of lacquers and paints with a specific conductance <= 5 x 10<->5 Siemens/m. Two flat plates are fixed in a parallel configuration with a small gap between them to act as electrodes, which are dipped into the sample. The conductance, G, is then determined and the specific conductance psi is calculated from the relationship: psi = c.G (I); where the cell constant c has a value between 0.5 and 1/cm. Also claimed is the equipment required for this method. Preferably the gap between the electrodes is to be between 0.6 and 2 mm. Electrodes are platinum plated. Alternating current at a frequency between 300 and 2000 Hz. is applied. The method is suitable for materials with a viscosity greater than 100 Pa.s.
