A device (8) for illuminating and magnifying printed cards for viewing is disclosed. A body (10) of the device has a hollow central region (30) with hollow, opposed sides (14, 16). At least one pair of slots (84, 86) near a floor (36b) of the hollow central region receives at least one printed card (39), with a magnifying lens (44) mounted in an upper region (42) of the hollow central region (30). A separate enclosure (50) having an illumination bulb (54) mounted therein is provided in one of the hollow sides (16), with batteries (70) mounted in another hollow side (14). An opening (48) in the enclosure (50) passes light across the central region (30), providing indirect illumination of the card (39).
