Apparatus, and an associated method (500), for a multi-branch receiver (10). A receive signal (12) is received at various receiver branches (14) of the multibranch receiver (10). Subsequent to selected processing stages (28, 44, 56) of processing of the receive signal (12), determinations (34) are made of the signal quality of the signal in the receiver branches (14). When determinations (34) are made that the signal quality of the signal of a particular receiver branch (14) is of poor quality, further processing of the signal (12) in the branch is squelched (38, 52, 64).
