A headlamp installation for cars has at least one lower unit (10) to generate a dipped beam and at least one further lower unit to generate an additional beam which can be switched on with the first unit or units. By the additional beam, only the adjacent region in front of the car is illuminated that would not be otherwise illuminated by just the dipped beam alone. The dipped beam lower unit(s) and the additional lower unit(s) are in common headlamp units. The installation has at least one lower unit to generate a fog light beam and at least one more additional lower unit, also in the common housing. Also included are one or more lower units to produce main beam with one or more additional ones.
