PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dialkyl carbonate in a high yield and selectivity by reaction of an aliphatic monoalcohol with O2 and CO in the presence of a catalyst composed of a copper compound and a specific anion exchanger. SOLUTION: This dialkyl carbonate of the formula is produced by reaction of an aliphatic monoalcohol of the formula ROH(R is a 1-12C aliphatic group) (e.g. methanol) with CO and O2 in the presence of a catalyst composed of a copper compound such as cuprous chloride and a solid strongly basic anion exchanger with quaternary ammonium group as the exchange group. In this case, the concentration of the copper compound to be used is set, normally at 0.001-2mol/l, pref. 0.01-1mol/l, while the concentration of the solid (e.g. cellulose) strongly basic anion exchanger to be used normally at 0.01-50vol.%, pref. 0.1-20vol.%. The reaction temperature and the total pressure of the CO and O2 are set, normally, at 0-300 deg.C and 0.5-100kg/cm<2> , respectively, and the reaction time is set, normally at 0.001-50h, pref. 0.01-10h. |
