PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dialkyl carbonate in a high yield and selectivity by reaction of an aliphatic monoalcohol with O2 and CO in the presence of a catalyst composed of a specific metal compound and carbonyl complex. SOLUTION: This dialkyl carbonate of the formula is produced by reaction of an aliphatic monoalchol of the formula ROH(R is a 1-12C aliphatic group) with CO and O2 in the presence of a catalyst composed of a metal compound such as copper compound [e.g. Cu(OCH3 )Cl] and a carbonyl complex [e.g. Ni(CO)4 ]. In this case, the concentration of the metal compound to be used is set, normally at 0.001-2mol/l, pref. 0.01-1mol/l, based on the reaction liquor, while the concentration of the carbonyl complex normally at 0.0001-1mol/l, pref. 0.001-0.5mol/l. The reaction time is set, normally at 0.001-50h, pref. 0.05-5h, while the reaction temperature normally at 0-300 deg.C, pref. 50-200 deg.C. The total pressure of the CO and O2 is set, normally at 0.5-100kg/cm<2> , pref. 2-100kg/cm2 on an absolute basis. |
