PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical transmission system with excellent C/N by suppressing a noise component due to Rayleigh scattering. SOLUTION: An electrooptic conversion section 102 converts a received electric signal into an optical signal. An optical branch section 103 branches an optical signal obtained after conversion into two. The branched optical signals are transmitted respectively via optical transmission lines 104, 105. In this case, a noise light due to Rayleigh scattering is generated in the optical transmission lines 104, 105. First and second photoelectric conversion sections 106, 107 convert respectively the optical signal including the noise light into an electric signal including a noise component. An adder section 108 sums the amplitude of the converted electric signals. In this case, the amplitude of the sum electric signal is equal to the sum of the amplitude of the electric signals to be summed, while the sum noise component has no correlation between the noise components going to be summed, then the power of the noise component is equal to the sum of the power of the noise components going to be summed. |
