PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable direct measurement of the velocity of a target in a wide range without regulating a pumping parameter, by a construction wherein a microlaser emits a light beam to the target and receives the light reflected from the target. SOLUTION: A microlaser 10 has an amplification activation substance 18 and two mirrors (emitting surfaces) 20 and 22 disposed on the opposite sides of the substance. A first beam 40 of the laser 10 is directed by an optical system 14 to a target 50 of which the displacement velocity is to be determined. A lens 44 collimates the beam 40 and converges the light 46 reflected by the target 50 at the laser 10. A second beam 42 emitted from the laser 10 is directed to a photoelectric detecting means 16 by an optical system 15. A section 60 is disposed between a pumping beam light source 30 and the laser 10, i.e., between lenses 32 and 34. An electric signal from the detecting means 16 is processed in a processing means 17 by fast Fourier transform and the velocity of the target 50 is computed from a Doppler frequency.
