PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain isobutylene and methacrolein useful as a chemical raw material efficiently in high selectivity and in high yield by catalytically reacting isobutane with molecular oxygen in the presence of a specific catalyst in a gas phase. SOLUTION: Isobutylene is catalytically reacted with molecular oxygen in the presence of preferably 2-20wt.% of gallium oxide and a compound oxide of the formula [A is Ni or Co; B is an (alkaline) earth metal or thallium; C is phosphorus, tellurium, antimony, etc.; D is silicone, Al, Ti, etc.; when (a) is fixed as 12, (b) and (f) are 0-12; (c) is 1.0-10; (d) is 0.1-20; (e) 2-20; (g) is 0-4; (h) is 0-30; (x) is a number to be fixed by oxidation state of element] containing at least Mo, Bi, Fe and Co or Ni to give isobutylene and methacrolein. Preferably, the compound oxide is impregenated with a solution or a slurry containing gallium, dried and baked to prepare the catalyst. |
