Exhaust gas purification converter

The converter contains a monolithic exhaust gas cleaning catalyser in a metallic converter housing, with several flow paths for exhaust gas running from inlet face surface to outlet face surface. The walls of the converter on radiation exchange with the face surfaces of the catalyser (4) are coupled to at least one heat depression. As heat depression, an air-exhaust gas heat exchanger (7), a water-exhaust gas heat exchanger and-or a latent heat accumulator are used. To the heat exchangers, thermo-electric converters are coupled. The ration of the effective radiating surfaces of the converter to its cover surface is preferably between 2 and 10. As catalyser body a monolithic honeycomb body is used of which the ration of the effective radius of the flow channels to the length of the flow channels is less than 0.1.
