The invention relates to a machine for turning over compost heaps, with a rotating turning-over roller, arranged transversely to the direction of travel, for picking up and throwing up the compost. In order to reach the basic layer of compost on the ground which cannot be grasped by the turning-over roller, there is arranged pivotably behind the turning-over roller, as seen in the direction of travel, and over the entire length of the latter a shield, via which compost which has remained lying on the ground can be pushed together and guided onto the turning-over roller.
