PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a projection type display device constituted so that a margin which should be formed around the picture forming area of a light valve can be made small and a bright projected picture is formed. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal light valves 925R, 925G and 925B of respective colors are illuminated with light emitted from the light source lamp unit 8 of the projection type display device through an integrator optical system 923. A first and a second lens plates 921 and 922 constituting the integrator optical system 923 being as the uniform illumination optical system are arranged so that the fitting positions thereof can be finely adjusted in a direction perpendicular to an optical axis 1a. By finely adjusting the fitting positions, the forming position of an illumination area B can be adjusted so as to be the position including the picture forming area A of the liquid crystal light valve. Therefore, the large margin need not be secured around the area A by presuming that the forming position of the area B is deviated. As the result, the utilizing efficiency of the illumination light is enhanced and the bright projected picture is formed. |
