REFLECTION TYPE COLOR FILTER AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain reflection type color filters which are improved in the utilization efficiency of light, are bright and a wide in color reproduction regions by optimizing the reflection characteristics of reflection films consisting of multilayered interference films. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal layer 3 side surface of a transparent substrate 1 is provided with transparent electrodes 4 and the liquid crystal layer 3 side surface of a substrate 8 is provided with the reflection type color filters 6a. The liquid crystal display 3 side surface of these reflection type color filters 6a is provided with transparent electrodes 5. The reflection type color filters 6a are formed by patterning three kinds of reflection films consisting of the multilayered interference films alternately laminated and formed with thin films consisting of high-refractive index materials and thin films consisting of low-refractive index materials and exhibiting respective colors; red (R), green (G), blue (B) in such a manner that these films correspond to respective pixels. The high-reflection regions of the reflection films of G and the high-reflection regions of the reflection films of B are superposed under the superposition of the high-reflection regions of the reflection films of R and the high-reflection regions of the reflection films of G. The max. reflectivity of the wavelength regions where these regions overlap is >=60%.
