PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device suitable for a consecutive photographing mode by providing a compressing means for performing fixed length compression and a compressing means for performing variable length compression, and further providing a manual selecting means for performing compression-encoding, while selecting any one of these compressing means. SOLUTION: A video signal converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 3 is stored in an image memory 4, and a compression-encoding device 5 encodes image data read out of this image memory 4, according to a prescribed compressing system and records them in a recording device 6. Further, a control part 7 selects either fixed length compression or variable length compression and performs every compression-encoding. Then, in such a device, while a user designates the consecutive photographing mode through a mode switch, when records a first image, the control part 7 performs recording while executing the fixed length compression through the same procedure as an ordinary recording mode. For images after the second one, the fixed length compression of a compressed code amount due to repeating processing is not performed, but these images are compressed and recorded while using the value of a parameter used for recording the first image. |
