PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heighten the activeness of a hydrogen storage alloy sufficiently and establish an excellent high-rate discharge characteristic by subjecting the hydrogen storage alloy to a treatment with an acid solution, and thereby removing the oxides from the surface. SOLUTION: A powder of hydrogen storage alloy is prepared and put in an agitator capable of being closed tightly, and the inside is substituted with argon gas, and a hydrochloric acid solution of pH=1 is poured in so that an acid treatment is conducted. The acid treatment is conducted in an inert atmosphere of argon, etc., so that the elusion speed of rare earth metals is lowered, and the condition is held for a long time in a low pH region where Ni and Co make elusion. Thereby the oxides of Ni and Co can be removed satisfactorily, to cause heightening of the activeness of the hydrogen storage alloy, and an excellent high-rate discharge characteristic is established. |
