摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of reducing the margin to be formed in the periphery of an image forming area of a light valve and forming a bright projection image. SOLUTION: Exit light from the light source lamp unit 8 of the projection display device illuminates liquid crystal light valves 925R, G, B of respective colors through an integrator optical system 923. A superposition lens 930 being a component of the integrator optical system 923 as a uniform illumination optical system is arranged in the state that its attaching position is finely adjustable in the direction vertical to the optical axis 1a. By finely adjusting the attaching position of this superposition lens 930, a forming position of a lighting area B is adjusted so as to become the position containing the image forming area A of the liquid crystal light valve. Then, the necessity that a large margin of the periphery of the image forming area A is secured assuming that deviation occurs in the forming position of the lighting area B is eliminated. Thus, utilization efficiency of illumination is enhanced, and the bright projection image is formed.
