<p>The apparatus includes a reader (1) for reading out data from a recording medium (101), a controller (7) for controlling the position of the reader (1), and a determiner (2,3) for determining the number of tracks the controller (7) is to move the reader (1). A comparator (6) compares whether the determined number of tracks is less than a predetermined number of tracks in which each of the tracks has an essentially equal number of sectors therein.
