PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject compound in a high yield with sufficient progress of reaction even at a low temperature by reacting an alkylamidenitropyridine derivative with an active biphenyl derivative using a quaternary ammonium salt, etc., as a catalyst. SOLUTION: A 2-alkylamide-3-nitropyridine derivative of formula I (R<1> is H, Cl or Br; R<2> is H or methyl; R<3> is a cycloalkyl, a lower alkyl or a lower alkoxy) is made to react with an active biphenyl derivative of formula II [Y is hydroxyl, a halogen, a lower-alkylsulfonyloxy, etc.; R<4> is cyano, COOR<5> (R<5> is a lower alkyl, a cycloalkyl, etc.), etc.] preferably at 0-70 deg.C, especially preferably at 10-40 deg.C in the presence of a quaternary ammonium salt, a quaternary sulfonium salt or a pyridinium salt and an alkali to produce a 2-[N-(biphenyl-4- yl) methyl]alkylamide-3-nitropyridine derivative of formula III. |
