BLUISH PURPLE PIGMENT PRODUCED BY BACTERIUM AND ITS USE AS DYE OR COLORING ADDITIVE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a strain which can efficiently produce violacein (its derivative) and can give a dye of high safety dyeing silk and cotton in calm bluish purple with excellent color tone, fabric hand and fastness of dyeing and abrasion. SOLUTION: This microorganism is Janthinobacterium lividum S9601 strain which is isolated from refuse cocoons or stained silk yarns and can produce violacein (its derivative). This bacterial strain is deposited as FERM P-15894 and fibers are preferably dyed with the dye by soaking the fibers in a dispersion prepared by suspending cell bodies of a microorganism in Alteromonas luteoviolacea, Chromobacterium violaceum or Janthinobacterium lividum in a liquid.
