The rapid-action hammer contains a frame (3) arranged on vertical guides (2) of a stand (I) and having a working chamber (5). Situated in this working chamber (5) is a rod (9) of a hammer tup (10), the end of which, in the upper position of the hammer tup (10), forms, together with part of the wall of the working chamber (5), an enclosed cavity (II) which is connected via a distribution system (13) to the atmosphere in order to hold the hammer tup (10) firmly in the upper position or to the working chamber (5) in order to execute a working stroke of the hammer tup (10) and upon the return of the latter into the upper position under the action of power cylinders (21) coupled therewith. In addition, the hammer contains a power cylinder (25) for the cushioning of the frame (3), the rod (26) of which is rigidly coupled to the frame (3) and the rod chamber (27) of which is connected to the working chamber (5). <IMAGE>
