<p>The lock (40) apparatus comprises a housing pivotally coupled to the stamping press (10), and the sector gear (80) attached to the housing and having a number of spaced second teeth. The first displacement device is coupled to the housing for moving the sector gear tangential relative to the eccentric gear (24,28) for locating the first number of teeth and aligning the first and second numbers of teeth and for then moving the sector gear radially toward the eccentric gear for meshing the first and second numbers of teeth. A pressure sensor is coupled to the first displacement device for determining when a tooth of the first number of teeth engages a tooth of the second number of teeth and a pressure applied to the first displacement device exceeds a selected pressure value. A second displacement device is coupled to the housing and responsive to the pressure measured by the pressure sensor for displacing the housing tangential relative to the eccentric gear when the pressure exceeds the selected pressure value for aligning the first and second numbers of teeth. The first displacement device resumes radial displacement of the sector gear toward the eccentric gear with the first and second numbers of teeth aligned until the teeth are fully meshed.</p> |
