<p>A mechanical seal comprises two follower packings provided on a follower ring to provide two balance diameters so that balance ratios can be set separately and appropriately for two fluids, of which boundaries are defined by sliding surfaces. In the case where a fluid being sealed crystallizes or contains solids, means for removing the wall of a packing groove on the side of the fluid being sealed is employed. In this case, a pressure reducing passage is preferably connected between the two follower packings. When the follower ring is divided into two halves between the two follower packings, it can follow up bending in an axial direction. <IMAGE></p> |
