PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber screening device by which wire flapping is not caused when an optical fiber to be inspected is wound at a high speed. SOLUTION: An optical fiber 2 rewound from a supply bobbin 1 is successively wound on a capstan wheel 3, screening wheel 5 and tension wheel 6, transferred and wound on a winding bobbin by a winder 7 in this screening device. In this case, a screening tension is applied on the fiber 2 between the capstan wheel 3 and screening wheel 5 by the adjustment of the torque of the screening wheel 5 to break the low-strength part of the fiber. For the purpose, a pass line extension 30 is newly provided between the screening wheel 5 and winder 7, and the length of the fiber wound unilt the winder 7 is stopped by a brake after the fiber 2 is broken is made shorter the traveling path of the fiber from the screening wheel 5 to the winder 7.
