The semi-mobile piston mechanism has a piston mechanism which opens a contact connection (3A). Whilst the piston is operating, a second semi-mobile piston (11) moves in the opposite direction, compressing the gas in the circuit breaker. During the operation, a first opening (4) is closed, and a second valve (2) carried in the section near the contact area is opened, passing the compressed gas over the contacts.
