Process for symbol e.g. name lettering line application to support surface e.g. vehicles

Individual symbols (3) are first bonded to the first support surface (2) in a given position, using an adhesive (7) that can be detached by hand. The symbols are then covered by a second support surface (4) which is bonded to the first support surface. The first support surface is then peeled off to leave an adhesive surface which can then be positioned and pressed down onto a permanent support surface so that when the second support surface is peeled away, the symbols are left glued to the surface. The symbols are preferably fitted on their underside with a double-sided adhesive tape, using a template that assists in an accurate positioning, by lining up a characteristic contour of the symbol with that of the second support surface and fixed surface for the final placement. Otherwise the symbols may be positioned by a feeder. The second support surface may consists of a transparent material e.g. a soft polyvinyl chloride.
